Handheld Scanners
Overview
The shopreme Scan & Go ecosystem also applies to in-store hardware provided by retailers in stores, such as handheld scanners and smart carts. These alternatives offer the same features as the native SDK integration, such as product scanning, viewing prices, payment handling, age verification, and spot checks.
shopreme can do the heavy lifting by offering the entire Scan & Go journey to these third-party devices, without further integration, if your store already uses the SDK/mobile Scan & Go solution. The shopreme ecosystem will include product scanning and payment, as well as configuring the devices using the Supervisor app.

User journey
The shopreme handheld scanners’ app offers a fully integrated Scan & Go experience, without the need for a smartphone. It empowers customers to scan products, track their purchases in real time, and pay at the cash register. Depending on the hardware, other payment methods such as NFC payment, may be possible.
In the store setting, the handheld scanners are docked in a charging cradle from which shoppers retrieve them at the beginning of the shopping journey.
The user journey begins by unlocking a device directly from an unlocking station. From there, shoppers can scan products as they shop, verify any restricted purchases, and finalize their transaction with minimal friction. The process concludes with either returning the handheld scanner to a charging cradle.
Unlocking the handheld scanner
Unlocking a device is handled via a central system. Shoppers can authenticate at the shopreme Unlocking Station (e.g. using a loyalty card), and the system will select a handheld scanner with the highest available battery status and will send a push notification to unlock it. The device can be taken from the cradle and is ready for shopping.

Product scanning
Once the handheld scanner is active, scanning can start right away. The handheld scanners have an integrated laser scanner for quick and efficient barcode recognition. The products will appear instantly in the digital shopping cart displayed on the screen. Shoppers can then view and manage their list at any point during the shopping trip. It is possible to change product quantities or remove products from the digital cart if they are returned to a shelf.

Payment options
When shoppers are ready to check out, the handheld scanner app offers different payment methods depending on the hardware. The most common method involves generating a QR code on the device screen, which shoppers scan at the designated payment kiosk or checkout counter. Alternatively, if the device offers NFC, mobile payment can also be integrated to be used by customers.
Payment at the cash register
The handheld scanner app will show a Payment QR code to transfer the scanned products to the cash register, and the shopper can pay as usual, either by cash or using a payment terminal.

Since the payment at the cash register is a process handled by a third-party system, the shopreme app on the handheld device shows a locked screen while the payment is processed by the cash register. This prevents any unwanted behavior or modifications that are not in sync with the cash register. This screen is only exited after confirming a payment or canceling it.

Returning the handheld scanner
After a successful payment, the handheld scanner displays a message instructing teh shopper to return the device to the charging cradle. Receipts are printed at the cash register, or sent digitally in case of mobile NFC payment.

Upon docking, the device automatically locks and begins charging, ready for the next customer. This idle screen can also show retail media.
